  • Studio Posehuset

    20. sep 2012 af Amanda Betz

    SECRETS OF STUDIO POSEHUSET
    Anne-Marie Gregersen,
    architectural journalist and writer.

At first glance, the Studio Posehuset is a traditional, whitewashed thatched cottage – a little Danish cosy corner on the outskirts of town, a stone’s throw from the country lane with a view over woods and fields. But it hides a secret. In the back garden, behind the original wall of the old stable, a high-ceilinged room has sprung up like a microcosm of white modernity, concentration and reflections.

Only the distinctive black aluminium roof, rising up with its roof windows and solar panels, reveals that, in the midst of this idyllic country cottage scene, someone has cast a spell, conjured up a little universe that proudly asserts its presence and identity on the big wide world outside. It is Posehuset’s work room, built as a white box, inside which you can easily imagine the cool cells of a monastery, with their profound peace and quiet, cleansed of visual noise and distracting elements. But above all, this unique studio is an area of lyrical breathing space into which daylight streams down from above to dance around the room, whilst the countryside outside sneaks in through quadrangular portals of the windows.

Studio Posehuset can also take your thoughts to somewhere in outer space – or the set of a science fiction film. But if we come down to earth again, it is just a rather small workshop of a few square metres dedicated to expression and introspection, a room that masters the art of transporting people out of their everyday lives onto a higher plane, to that part of the heavens where concentration, creativity and art can unfold their wings. The magic of the spell cast is the daylight – the light reflected by multiple mirror surfaces; one whole wall a mirror that sends light back and forth like a visible echo; above, a sloping wall of mirrors that bounces light around the room; the room itself plays with light like a prism, light whose intensity is multiplied and amplified. And when you think about it, that’s not bad going for the stable building of an old country cottage – beautifully and skilfully helped along its way by the architect behind the transformation and his refreshing interpretation of Danish architectural tradition, where light, as is well known, has always played a leading role.

  • Sten Saks PAPIR
